Sex trafficking may involve being forced into sex work, pornography, or escort agencies.
Sex trafficking and sexual exploitation is also a form of modern day slavery.
Modern slavery exists in many forms in the UK, including trafficking into criminal activities like cannabis farming, sexual exploitation, domestic slavery or forced labour on farms, in construction, shops, bars, nail bars, car washes or manufacturing.
Sex trafficking Is a form of human trafficking and the action or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to another for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
Sex trafficking may be happening if:
- a person seems overly fearful, submissive, tense, or paranoid
- a person is deferring to another person before giving information
- someone has physical injuries or branding such as name tattoos on face or chest, tattoos about money and sex, or pimp phrases
- clothing is inappropriately sexual or inappropriate for weather
- a minor is unaccompanied at night or falters to give an explanation of who they are with and what they are doing
- someone`s identification documents are held by another
- a person works long or excessive hours or is always available “on demand.”
- a person is overly sexual for their age or situation.
- a person has multiple phones or social media accounts.
- there are signs of unusual wealth without explanation, such as new jewellery, shoes, phones without any known form of income
- a person lives in a “massage” business or is not free to come and go.
